VUBThe Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program at the University of Arkansas is federally funded by the Department of Education designed to help U.S. military veterans enter and succeed in post-secondary education. Veterans Upward Bound provides regular academic classes and transitioning assistance to help veterans gain the skills required for higher education. VUB staff also provides advising services to help military members understand their options to attend, pay for, and obtain a college degree.

VUB provides all of its services completely free of charge.

Veterans Upward Bound offers:

  • Personalized Academic Support: Qualified veterans receive tailored assistance to help them achieve their academic goals and overcome educational challenges.
  • Skill Development: The program helps veterans reestablish fundamental skills and study habits essential for success in post-secondary education.
  • Comprehensive College and Career Guidance: Veterans of all ages gain access to valuable information about college options, career pathways, and educational planning.
  • Individualized Programs: Each veteran's experience is customized to address their unique needs, ensuring focused and effective support.
  • Veteran-Centered Environment: Participants learn in a supportive community of fellow veterans, guided by dedicated VUB staff who understand and address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by veterans.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Veteran having served at least 180 days of active duty in the U.S. military service and discharged under conditions other than dishonorable OR
  • Was a member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces called to active  duty for a period of 30 days or more OR
  • Was a member of a  reserve component of the Armed Forces who served on active  duty in support of a contingency operation on or after September 11, 2001.
          AND
  • Meet low income guidelines set forth by the U.S. Dept. of Education (see below) OR
  • Be a potential first-generation college student (neither parent has completed a four year degree) OR
  • Demonstrate academic need OR
  • Have a documented disability.
